Picture Motion Browser (PMB) Ver.3.3.00 Software Update for Windows

Sony offers you the latest update program Ver.3.3.00 for PMB (Picture Motion Browser).

To apply the update program, PMB needs to be installed in your computer beforehand. If the driver/software CD (included with your device) has been lost or damaged, please contact SONY.

Please carefully read the information that follows, to make sure that your Picture Motion Browser version is targeted by this update.

Using PMB with Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit versions:

If your supplied PMB is Ver.3.2.00 or later:
You can install supplied PMB and use it with Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit editions.*1
If your supplied PMB is Ver.2.1.03~3.1.00:
You can use PMB with Windows Vista / Windows 7 64-bit editions by applying the PMB Ver.4.2.10 update program after installing supplied PMB.*1
If your supplied PMB is Ver.2.1.02 or older:
Please install and update PMB from the PMB Installer for Vista / 7 64-bit editions .

*1 It works in the 32-bit compatibility mode.

Note that PMB Ver.2.0.11 as alternative of Image Mixer and PMB Ver.2.0.12 ~ Ver.2.0.14 as alternative of Picture Package are not supported.

Notes:

The above OS needs to be preinstalled at the factory.
Operations are not guaranteed in an upgraded or multi-boot environment.

Supported Products

This update applies to the following versions of Picture Motion Browser:

PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Ver 3.0.00 ~ 3.2.10
- If the version of your PMB is older than Ver.3.0.00, please apply PMB Ver.3.0.05 update program beforehand.
- To update GPS Image Tracker Ver.1.0 to Ver.2.0, please apply PMB Ver.3.0.05 update program beforehand.

To check your current version of PMB, proceed as follows:

Start up Picture Motion Browser.
Click [Help] on the menu bar, and select [About Picture Motion Browser].
The version information is displayed.
Confirm the version of your PMB software is in the range between Ver 3.0.00 ~ 3.2.10.

Improvements

Main additional functions
- Blu-ray Disc (HD) Creation
  You can combine images and add comments and sound effects on images to create original videos. You can also combine still images and create slideshow videos. Images decorated by the eDeco function can be uploaded to network services (blog or image sharing services) and saved as WMV format videos.
- Movie Tracer function
  You can play back videos tracing the movement of your camera while recording them. By combining thumbnail images of the video, the scenes you recorded are reproduced in a two-dimensional view.
- Support for the WMV format
  WMV format videos can be displayed as thumbnails, played and attached to email. You can also create data discs from them.
- Face search function
  By analyzing videos and still images imported to the computer, you can search the images that include the similar faces.
- New upload function for online services
  The function to upload images from PMB to online photo/video sharing services has become more user-friendly. This new function lets you download the available online service information so that you can always use the latest services.
  Notes:
  -Available services vary depending on the countries.
  -Under a certain network environment (such as through a proxy server), it may fail to upload large-sized image files.
  -After this update, the settings such as login information will be cleared. Please set them again.
Improved functions
- The issue that the export function is disabled when multiple versions of PMB are installed in certain environments will be resolved.
- The issue that the login process for uploading images takes a long time under a certain network environment will be resolved.
- DVD writing performance will be improved in certain environments. (For Ver.3.0.00 ~ 3.0.04, 3.0.06)
  The compatibility between the converted WMV files and other software, such as Windows Movie Maker in Windows Vista, will be improved. (For Ver.3.0.00 ~ 3.0.04, 3.0.06)

System Requirements

Hard disk space: 700MB or more is required to download the program.
Other requirements are the same as the system requirements for original PMB.
Video card memory: At least 32MB (64MB recommended) is required to use Movie Tracer.

How to check the video card memory:

Press the [Windows] key and the [R] key at the same time to open the [Run] screen.
Type "dxdiag" in the textbox, and click [OK].
If the message appears, click [Yes] to continue.
Click the [Display] tab in the [DirectX Diagnostic Tool] window.
You can check the capacity of the video card memory in [Approx. Total Memory].

Notes:

When using the eDeco function with HD (high definition) videos, Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or faster is recommended for the CPU.
In a computer which does not satisfy the system requirements, videos may not be played smoothly in the Movie Tracer or eDeco screen. However, they can be played properly after saved as the WMV files.

Download and Installation procedure

Please log on as a user with administrative privilege before you start the following operations.

Please click the [Accept] button below. The download of the [SPU30_Upgrade0810a.exe] file (332MB (348,191,224 bytes)) will start.

Notes:

Since the file size is large, it may take a long time to complete the download.
Disable the standby or suspend mode on your computer during download. (This is usually found in the Control Panel section under Power options.)

Installation

Make sure that you are logged on as a computer administrator.
Close all currently running programs on your computer.
Double-click the downloaded [SPU30_Upgrade0810a.exe] file.
The file is automatically extracted, and the message "Picture Motion Browser is already installed. Picture Motion Browser will be updated with new and improved features." appears. Click Yes.
The License Agreement page appears. Select I accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.
The Ready to Install the Program page appears. Check Installation settings and click Install.
The installation of the update program will start.

Note: If the Microsoft DirectX Setup screen appears, click OK.
The Update Complete page appears. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now. and click Finish.

To check if the update is successfully completed, please check the version as follows:

Start up Picture Motion Browser.
Click [Help] on the menu bar, and select [About Picture Motion Browser].
The version information is displayed. Confirm the version shown on the top is "3.3.00".

How to update PMB Portable

If you use NSC-GC1/GC3, DSC-T2, or DSC-T700, please update PMB Portable in the camera as follows after the update of PMB is completed.

Turn on your camera, and connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
Click the Start button --> [All Programs] ([Programs] in Windows 2000) --> [Sony Picture Utility] --> [Tools] --> [PMB Portable Maintenance Tool] to start up [PMB Portable Maintenance Tool].
Click [Start] --> [OK].
When the message "Update completed." appears, click [OK].

Note on using the upload function

It is recommended to connect to the Internet when you first use PMB after the update, so that you can obtain the latest online service information.

If the screen shown on the right appears, please check Check for program updates now and click Enable Automatic Notification to always obtain the latest service information.

You can also activate this [Information Tool] by clicking Sony

on the menu and selecting [Get the Latest Media Services].
